The exact identification of the cariogenic microorganisms is also inconclusive, but Streptococcus mutans, as examined in this study, has the highest detection rate in caries patients (Bhaumik et al, 2021; Ev et al, 2023). An exemplary observation of a single species therefore does not represent the complexity or resilience of a biofilm, but can provide reliable findings before more complex or even in vivo tests.…”
