Show more

“…In this context, several paradigms have served as the basis for the study of false memories (cf. Oliveira & Albuquerque, 2015). In the same way that the studies of Deese (1959b) were precursors to the use of word lists in the production of false memories, the use of more complex material, such as the suggestive questions used by Binet (1900), or the stories used by Bartlett (1932Bartlett ( /1997, was followed, giving rise to the creation and development of other paradigms of which the disinformation paradigm (Loftus & Palmer, 1974), or the false narrative paradigm (Loftus & Pickrell, 1995) are examples.…”

“…This monitoring advantage is often associated with activation/monitoring framework; however, it can also be applied to fuzzy-trace theory, once which does not exclude the possibility of monitoring having an important role in the rejection of the critical lure (i.e., identify to reject). Consequently, to understand the results that were found, it seems necessary to consider the contributions of both the activation/monitoring framework and the fuzzy-trace theory (see Oliveira & Albuquerque, 2015). Thus, there is a need to adopt a theoretical approach that integrates the perspectives of the two theories if a more complete explanation of the production of false memories using the DRM paradigm is sought.…”
