Show more

“…The inclusion of this byproduct did not limit the intake, which agrees with previous results obtained by Fernandes Júnior et al (2015) and by Moura et al (2015), assessing the good acceptability of diets containing SFC by lambs. In addition, there were no differences among treatments for the FCR according to Rodrigues et al (2013) and Monção et al (2018).…”

“…Fernandes Júnior et al, 2015;Lima et al, 2018a;Monção et al, 2018). Rodrigues et al (2013) found a linear reduction of 0.06 kg for total BW gain per every 1% of SFC included in the diet, similarly to the reduction of 0.03 kg found in the current study.…”

“…The lack of effect on slaughter weight and the slaughter weight range explains the similarity in carcass traits, as well as in fat deposition, since the weight range for finding suitable fat depositions in Santa Ines sheep is between 15 and 35 kg body weight. Above these, adipose tissue shows positive heterogeneous growth, with marked deposition (Fernandes Júnior et al, 2015).…”

“…The carcass compactness index is considered an indirect measure of conformation obtained from the ratio between the cold-carcass weight and the internal carcass length, which is used to evaluate muscle production in animals of similar body weight and tends to be higher in animals of greater weight, which could explain the effect seen in the present study, since, as mentioned above, the animals had significantly different body weights at slaughter (P<0.05). According to Fernandes Júnior et al (2015), as this index is easily determined, it could be used to characterise the age at slaughter of Santa Ines animals.…”
