Show more

“…The range of Grass Wrens extends from Tierra del Fuego to Mexico, where they inhabit tropical and temperate grasslands, marshes, and bogs from sea level up to 4000 m asl (Ridgely and Tudor 1989, Chesser et al 2021, Remsen et al 2021. Grass Wrens are small (~9 g) insectivorous passerines, predominately resident, and socially monogamous (Llambias et al 2018, Zarco and Llambı ´as 2018, Fujikawa and Tubelis 2020. Only males develop complex songs used during courtship and agonistic interactions (Kroodsma et al 1999(Kroodsma et al , 2002.…”

“…Grass Wrens are year‐round territorial, predominantly socially monogamous (Llambías et al . 2018, Zarco & Llambías 2018, Fujikawa & Tubelis 2020) with moderate rates of extra‐pair fertilizations (Arrieta et al . 2022).…”

“…The Grass Wren is a small (c. 9 g), insectivorous, grassland specialist, broadly distributed throughout South America (Zarco & Llambías 2018, Remsen Jr. et al 2021. Grass Wrens are year-round territorial, predominantly socially monogamous (Llambías et al 2018, Zarco & Llambías 2018, Fujikawa & Tubelis 2020 with moderate rates of extra-pair fertilizations (Arrieta et al 2022). Nests are dome-shaped structures, constructed with grass stems, leaves and inflorescences (Zarco & Llambías 2018, Llambías et al 2020.…”

“…In this study, we describe the genetic mating system of a south temperate grassland specialist, the grass wren Cistothorus platensis . The grass wren is a socially monogamous passerine distributed from Cape Horn to Mesoamerica (Zarco and Llambías 2018, Llambías et al 2019a, Fujikawa and Tubelis 2020, Remsen et al 2021). Until recently it was considered conspecific with the largely migratory sedge wren Cistothorus stellaris of North America (Chesser et al 2021), making the grass wren an excellent model for future comparisons between tropical and temperate populations.…”
