A comparison of mRNA and circRNA expression between squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the lungs

Abstract: Lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) are the two major subtypes of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study aimed to compare mRNA and circRNA expression patterns between LUSC and LUAD. Cancer tissues from 8 LUSC patients and 12 LUAD patients were collected to obtain mRNA and circRNA expression profiles. The differentially expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs) and circRNAs (DE-circRNAs) between LUSC and LUAD were screened. Afterwards, miRNA-DEcircRNA pairs and miRNA-DEmRNA pairs were pre… Show more

“…In addition, ROC curve showed that CDK6 and LYPLA1 had good diagnostic e cacy for NSCLC patients. A consistent observation in a recent study revealed that high level of CDK6 indicated a poor prognosis for LUAD patients[49]. Altogether, CDK6 and LYPLA1 in serum can be used as diagnostic and prognostic markers of NSCLCs.…”

“…The ceRNA network involving lncRNAs, circRNAs, and miRNAs in the regulation of cancer development has been validated by many studies, in which lncRNAs/circRNAs may act as ceRNAs by competitively binding to miRNAs to regulate the expression levels of miRNA target mRNAs [ 24 ]. Importantly, the function of circRNAs in cancer cells has been illustrated, including in LUSC [ 25 , 26 ]. In the present research, it was observed through FISH assay that circCNN2 was mainly located in the cytoplasm of LUSC cells, which suggested the possibility of the ceRNA pattern.…”
