Homogenate extraction of crude polysaccharides from Lentinus edodes and evaluation of the antioxidant activity

Abstract: Crude polysaccharides of Lentinus edodes were extracted using homogenate method. Factors affecting the yield of crude polysaccharides were investigated and optimized by response surface methodology. The homogenate extraction method was compared with traditional heating extraction method. The antioxidant activity of crude polysaccharides from Lentinus edodes was evaluated. Results showed that, the optimal conditions of homogenate extraction were as follows: solvent pH, 10; liquid-solid ratio, 30: 1 (mL: g), ext… Show more

“…RSM is an empirical modeling technique applied to evaluate the relationship among variables and results (Ke & Chen, 2016) and to optimize the factors for the target range. Box-Behnken center combination design principle in Design-Expert (Version 8.0) was used to design our experimental trials and to optimize the corresponding experimental factors.…”

“…Response surface methodology (RSM) is regarded as an effective method to optimize processing parameters for functional food components (Ke & Chen, 2016;Li et al, 2016;Samaram et al, 2015). On the present study, RSM was further applied on the basis of single-factor experiments to optimize process parameters of spray drying, including total solid content, hot air temperature, and atomization pressure.…”

“…The HAE is to generate strong shear force, which makes the material molecules motion rate increases sharply, and reciprocate at high speed between the stator and rotor on the inner wall of the container, so that the material is split, broken and evenly dispersed in the medium [24] , [25] . Ke et al [26] used a homogenate method to extract crude polysaccharides from lentinus edodes with a yield of 13.2 ± 0.9%, which is 29.82% higher than the traditional heating extraction method, and has better DPPH scavenging activity . Regrettably, the long-term shearing action is easy to cause the oxidation, gelatinization, and the activity decreases of the substances.…”

“…Homogenate extraction method can be applied at low temperatures for a short time when it is compared with other extraction methods; so, it is excellent in food industry to improve food quality, processing efficiency, consumption cost, and manufacturing operation. ere have been several studies on the utilization of homogenate extraction for extracting bioactive food compounds such as alkaloids, pigments, and polysaccharides [10][11][12][13]. However, there is no report on polysaccharides extracted from pine nut meal using homogenate extraction method.…”
