Anti-Helicobacter pylori and Anti-inflammatory Properties of Eugenia uniflora L.

Abstract: Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium that reaches half of the world population and it's recognized as the main cause of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer. In this study, we evaluated the anti-H. pylori, antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities of the methanolic (MeOH) extract of Eugenia uniflora leaves and chemical profile. Anti-H. pylori activity was evaluated by spectrophotometric broth microdilution technique by determining the HIGHLIGHTS • E. uniflora MeOH extract has anti-Helicobacter pylori activity; •… Show more

“…They obtained higher MIC values when testing with Gramnegative bacilli (5 mg.mL -1 for Escherichia coli, 20 mg.mL -1 for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and 10 mg.mL -1 for Salmonella typhymurium). Borges Monteiro et al (2019) obtained a MIC value of 0.128 mg.mL -1 , but they worked with methanolic extracts of Eugenia uniflora L. leaves and H. pylori strains. In this study, MBC values were lower than 20 mg.mL -1 with both extracts, which indicates a high activity against GBS, according to the criteria of Avellaneda et al (2005).…”
