Harnessing Natural Colorants for Sustainable Textile Dyeing an Eco-Friendly Approach Using Sweet Cane (Saccharum Bengalense Retz.) Inflorescence

Abstract: The excessive industrial use of dye producing plants has threatened the existence of these species and biodiversity. Exploration of abundantly available natural dye sources not only provide industrial benefits but also share the load of dye yielding plants. In the present study we used the inflorescence of munj sweet cane (Saccharum bengalense Retz.) to extract natural colorant for textile industry. This easily available plant is cheap source of natural colorants and good alternative of synthetic dyes. The mun… Show more

“…Fresh CFs are living organisms and play an important role in improving people's living environment and quality of life (Raza et al, 2018) Fresh CFs still have life activities after detaching from the mother plant and continue to consume nutrients. However, CFs unable to continue their normal life activities due to the loss of nutrients such as carbohydrates and inorganic salts (Noman et al, 2017).…”

“…The overutilization of a few known natural plant extracts as colorants has threatened the ecosystem’s sustainability [ 13 , 14 ]. Hence, there is a need to search for alternative sources of natural dyes that are renewable and do not affect the ecosystem balance [ 15 , 16 ]. Due to the high growth rate, many color shades, and widespread occurrence of algae in different climatic conditions, they may be the best sources of natural dyes [ 17 , 18 ] for industrial applications.…”
