Evaluation of central vestibular syndrome in dogs using brainstem auditory evoked responses recorded with surface electrodes

Abstract: The present study aimed to analyse the wave morphology, amplitude, latency, and intervals of the brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAERs) in dogs with central vestibular syndrome (CVS) recorded with surface electrodes. Ten dogs with CVS were examined by mono- and binaural stimulation, using the Neuropack electrodiagnostic system, with stimulus intensities of 90 dBSPL. BAERs examinations revealed morphological changes of waves I, II, III, and V and decreased amplitudes of all waves in 7/10 dogs. P values obt… Show more

“…The cause of these higher concentrations of Aβ in patients with renal dysfunction without dialysis is not fully known. These results sustain the main role of kidney in Aβ hemostasis and the idea that impaired renal function could lead to inadequate Aβ clearance and thus contribute to the AD development [ 154 , 155 ].…”

“…There is no certainty whether the island amyloid is directly involved, or it is just the consequence of the disease. It is also unknown if diabetic hyperglycemia and insulin resistance induce amyloid deposition in the islets and brain [ 54 ].…”

“…Diseases that may affect auditory function were excluded for all dogs via various tests. It is generally agreed that the BAER test is not affected by sedation or anesthesia (11,18), and medetomidine can be used when performing the BAER test (2,13,21). Therefore, we sedated the dogs using medetomidine.…”
