However, at least eight cases of cardiomyopathy have been recorded in captive giant anteaters, 1,2,5,8,13,17,19 the known or suspected etiologies of which were parasitic or related to taurine deficiency. Cardiac diseases should therefore be part of the differential diagnosis of possible diseases in giant anteaters, especially in case of evocative signs (dyspnea, exertional intolerance, lethargy, dysorexia, weight loss, and so on).…”
