Size at sexual maturity estimation for 36 species captured by bottom and mid-water trawls from the marine habitat of Balochistan and Sindh in the Arabian Sea, Pakistan, using maximum length (Lmax) and logistic (L50) models

Abstract: The aim of this study was to estimate the size at first sexual maturity (Lm) for 36 species belonging to 24 families from the marine habitat of Balochistan and Sindh in Arabian Sea, Pakistan through maximum length based an empirical and logistic model using commercial catch during June 2020 to May 2021. Individual total length (TL) was noted up to 0.1 cm using measuring broad. The Lm was calculated using two formulae; (i) log (Lm) = - 0.1246 + 0.9924 * log (Lmax) for Elasmobranchs and (ii) log (Lm) = -0.1189 +… Show more

“…The Arabian Sea of Pakistan is one of the most identical seas around the world and diverse fish fauna (≈1,000 species) due to nutrient-rich waters (Amir et al, 2022;Hassan et al, 2024). The fish industry has grown enormously to be an attractive center for scientific and public potential (Baker et al, 2013).Fish are the most abundant vertebrate group on the earth, consisting of 50% of the vertebrate species and chief sources of highquality protein to consume one billion people globally (Rafique and Khan, 2012;Hassan et al, 2020;Khalid et al, 2021).Fisheries also play an essential role in generating income for many communities (Ghouri et al, 2020).…”

“…Healthy fish populations lead to healthy oceans, and it is our responsibility to be a part of the solution (Hussain et al, 2021;Khalid et al, 2021;Hassan et al, 2021Hassan et al, , 2022. The Arabian Sea of Pakistan is one of the most identical sea worldwide and has diverse fish fauna (≈1,000 species) due to nutrient-rich waters (Hassan et al, 2024). A total of 749 species belonging to 261 genera of 81 sub-familes, 85 families of 24 Superfamiles, 19 sub-orders of 12 orders have been reported and described so far from Pakistan, in which 232 species are new (Shahina et al, 2019).…”
