Anti-hyperglycemic and anti-hyperlipidemic effects of a methanolic extract of Debregeasia salicifolia in Alloxan-induced diabetic albino mice

Abstract: Diabetes mellitus (DM), an endocrine syndrome characterized by high blood glucose levels due to abrogated insulin activity. The existing treatments for DM have side effects and varying degrees of efficacy. Therefore, it is paramount that novel approaches be developed to enhance the management of DM. “…O Diabetes Mellitus é uma doença endócrina caracterizada por elevados níveis de glicose no sangue, devido a irregularidades na atividade da insulina (KHAN B, et al, 2023) e influencia diretamente o contexto odontológico, como o tipo de anestésico a ser utilizado, os medicamentos receitados, as complicações que podem ocorrer durante o tratamento e, em especial, dificultando o processo de cicatrização após procedimentos cirúrgicos na cavidade oral (FREITAS L, et al, 2021). De acordo com alguns estudos, de 3 a 4% dos pacientes que buscam tratamento odontológico são diabéticos, levando a manifestações bucais que podem afetar o tratamento cirúrgico e a posterior cicatrização da região tecidual (ASNAASHARI M, et al,2015), além de alterações bucais como: hipoplasia, hipocalcificação do esmalte, diminuição do fluxo e aumento da acidez e da viscosidade salivar, que são fatores de risco para cárie, podendo também apresentar doença periodontal e xerostomia (MENDES V C, et al,2016).…”
