Blood cells and some hematological parameters of red drum (Linnaeus, 1766) in Vietnam

Abstract: This research focuses on hematological characteristics, erythrocyte morphology and some biochemical parameters of red drum Sciaenops ocellatus (Perciformes: Sciaenidae), cultured in natural water environment in areas near river mouth (L1), estuaries (L2) in Ha Tinh province and coastal areas (L3) in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province of Vietnam. A total of 18 speciments were examined in research, six in each location. Blood was drawn from the tail vein, using a microscope to research morphology and automated g… Show more

“…Rhesus monkeys exhibit high genetic, anatomical, physiological, and behavioral similarities to humans [1], and hence, are the most extensively applied non-human primate models [2] that play a vital role in the current biomedical studies [3]. Clinical blood physiological and biochemical indices of test animals are important experimental baseline data for biological studies [4,5]. Although several published studies have reported hematological and biochemical values in rhesus monkeys, most of them had relatively small sample sizes [6,7].…”

“…3 Clinical blood physiological and biochemical indices of animals are important experimental baseline data for biological studies. 4,5 Although several published studies have reported hematological and biochemical values in rhesus monkeys, most of them had relatively small sample sizes. 6,7 Additionally, in nonhuman primates, values of hematological and serum biochemical parameters can be affected by age, 8,9 sex, 10,11 body weight, 12 virus, 13,14 species, 6,15 origin, 16 anesthetics, 17,18 and disease.…”
