Proposed method for agglutinating antibody titer analysis and its use as indicator of acquired immunity in pacu, Piaractus mesopotamicus

Abstract: Antibody can be assessed by agglutinating antibody titer which is a quantitative measure of circulating antibodies in serum from fish previously immunized. The antibody evaluation has been performed with different fish species, and is considered a reliable method that can be applied to confirm several hypothesis regarding acquired immunity, even in conjunction with precise methods to describe immune mechanisms. In order to provide appropriate analytical methods for future studies on the specific immune system … Show more

“…Testing of antibody titer was performed on a 96-wells microplate-based on a method referred to Takahashi et al (2014). Measurement of antibody titer was performed by taking 25 μL of PBS solutions and put into microplate at holes 1 to 12, then inserted blood serum in the hole 1 as much as 25 μL.…”

“…However, its farming has been facing disease threats and little information is available on the use of immunostimulants or the effects of bacterial infection in general Brazilian aquaculture (Garcia et al, 2007;Martins et al, 2009a;Biller-Takahashi et al, 2014). In the light of these facts, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of oral administration of β-glucan on disease resistance of pacu experimentally infected with A. hydrophila.…”
