Aquaculture biological waste as culture medium to cultivation of Ankistrodesmus gracilis (Reinsch) Korshikov

Abstract: Current study investigated the effectiveness of different macrophytes as culture media for Ankistrodesmus gracilis in laboratory conditions. Significant difference (p < 0.05) was reported in cell density with regard to conventional culture medium (CHU 12 ) and macrophytes culture media. Mean cell density in NPK, Eichhornia crassipes and E. azurea media was higher (p < 0.05) than in conventional culture medium. Chlorophyll-a was higher than 1 g.L (P. cordata medium) and 1.7 g.L -1 (CHU 12 medium) for ammonium, … Show more

“…Macrophytes Azolla caroliniana (AAC) and Lemna minor (ALM) were used as culture media. Culture medium with different macrophytes has already been discussed by Sipaúba-Tavares et al (2009, 2018. The macrophytes were chosen due to their great availability and abundance on the site.…”

“…Fish may be maintained and developed by live feed through large-scale production of microalgae at high costs, especially with regard to culture media. Several research works have underscored the use of alternative culture media, such as inorganic fertilizers (El-Nabris 2012; Ramaraj et al 2015) or the employment of organic wastes retrieved from aquaculture, such as macrophytes (Sipaúba-Tavares et al 2009, 2018.…”

“…Also, it is regarded as a valuable resource with several unique properties, and previous studies have reported that E. crassipes had high absorption efficiency of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and heavy metals [4][5][6]. So it was used in the bioremediation of pollutants present in water [7,8]. Furthermore, E. crassipes served as a good economic raw material for the production of feeding and energy fuel [9][10][11].…”
