Good practices in normal childbirth: reliability analysis of an instrument by Cronbach’s Alpha

Abstract: Objectives:to analyze the internal consistency of the evaluation instrument of the adherence to the good practices of childbirth and birth care in the professionals, through Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient for each of the dimensions and for the total instrument. Method:this is a descriptive and cross-sectional study performed in obstetric centers of eleven public hospitals in the Federal District, with a questionnaire applied to 261 professionals who worked in the delivery care. Results:The study was attended by … Show more

“…After reviewing the responses by the software, a coefficient was obtained, describing the correlation between the responses in the questionnaire and the variation between 0 and 1, based on the analysis of the responses. With a coefficient close to 1, the reliability of the indices is higher (Gottems et al, 2018). If the Cronbach's alpha coefficient is calculated higher than 0.7, it means that data is reliable for analysis (Pinto et al, 2014).…”

“…This coefficient has to be between 0 and 1. If the coefficient value is closer to 1, it means that the response is more reliable (Gottems et al, 2018). If the Cronbach's alpha coefficient is greater than 0.7, it means that the questionnaire can be accounted to be reliable for further analysis (Pinto et al, 2014).…”

“…Reliability refers to the degree to which an instrument produces consistent results from its scores. When one item is eliminated and Cronbach's alpha coefficient increases, this item is not highly correlated with the others and could be eliminated from the instrument, but if the coefficient decreases, it means that the item is highly correlated with the others [37]. e internal consistency value by Cronbach's alpha was equal to the value obtained in the original instrument.…”
