Individual analysis of creatine kinase concentration in Brazilian elite soccer players

Abstract: Objective: to determine the individual profile of blood concentration of creatine kinase (CK) in elite soccer players as well as to analyze the CK concentrations in different periods during the Professional Brazilian Championship. Methods: resting CK of 17 soccer players was evaluated before the competition (pre-season) and after the matches (36 and 46 hours after the games) (CK Game ) for the individual blood CK. The Chi-square test was used to analyze the individual CK during the season. The competitive seas… Show more

“…Some papers discuss the changes in blood indicators that characterize skeletal muscle fatigue in soccer players, with different levels of training after a match, after a training period, or after a single workout with a certain load. At the end of the preparation period, Alves et al [ 37 ] reported CK at 626 U/L 48 h after the match and the variation of this indicator among players was high (from 141 to 1830 µ/L). Similar values of this indicator were observed by Mohr et al [ 1 ] 24 h after three matches played in one week: 1043 ± 76, 1252 ± 130 and 1011 ± 114 U/L.…”

“…Values are showed as mean and standard deviation. Furthermore, the statistic power (ω) of analysis of variance and Partial Eta Squared (η 2 p ) to demonstrate the magnitude of the differences between each measure (small < .01, mean = .06, extensive> .14) 31 were calculated. The significance level was set at α < .05.…”

“…This paradox of a similar aerobic fitness between decades, despite objectively increased match demands, highlights the need to select appropriate monitoring tools. Furthermore, considering that soccer is a complex sport in which players need to develop several physical capacities (e.g., acceleration, agility, endurance), the selection of the best tools to monitor the evolution of players' physical fitness over the season is required for better managing the complex balance between training, competition, recovery, and evaluation [7][8][9][10].…”
