“…Such a clinically based evaluation method is particularly useful for testing a number of measurement properties (e.g., sensitivity, scalability, clinical validity), which do not find room in the traditional psychometric model [53][54][55]. Homogeneity of components, as measured by statistical analyses such as Cronbach's alpha coefficients and factor analyses, has been considered the most important requirement for a psychometric rating scale [53][54][55][56][57][58][59][60]. In the psychometric model, redundant items (i.e., questions which are highly correlated to each other) are needed for ensuring such homogeneity of components [55].…”

“…Future studies, making use of item response theory (IRT) models (i.e. Rasch and Mokken analyses), are needed to examine the scalability (Bech, 2016; Fava et al, 2018; Fleck et al, 2019) of the ES. Fourth, only self‐reported measures were used, precluding the evaluation of the clinical validity of the ES.…”

“…50 In the psychometric model, a statistically significant correlation between items is often required to increase the internal reliability of the rating scale. 51,52 However, as has been widely demonstrated, the redundant nature of items may increase the internal consistency of the rating scale but is likely to decrease its sensitivity. 23,26,28,51-53 This is the main reason why previous studies 10,11,54 suggested using the SCL-90-R subscales in conjunction with highly sensitive clinician-rated scales such as the revised version of the Diagnostic Criteria for Psychosomatic Research (DCPR-R), 55 which was found to be a valid measure of symptoms of psychological distress (i.e., demoralization) in patients with PD.…”
