“…The present study is part of a series of research projects on indirect self-destructiveness in patients with schizophrenia, hence the methods used and some fragments may bear similarity to those presented in earlier published papers (Tsirigotis, 2018;Tsirigotis et al, 2016). The approval of the Bioethics Committee of the University was obtained before initiating the study.…”

“…In the case of the latter, indirectly self-destructive behaviours may involve (or alternate with) psychotic symptoms or syndromes. “…In other words, with the aid of CBT, one can become aware of one's unhealthy ways of thinking and learn new behavioral patterns. Any behavior causing harm to the individual, regardless of the intention, aim, awareness of their negative consequences, time perspective, the object of harm as well as whether it is a direct or indirect threat can be referred to as self-destructive behaviors (Tsirigotis, 2018). Self-destructive behavior such as drug addiction has been classified as a chronic health condition and quitting usually takes more than good intentions or a strong will (NIDA, 2018).…”

“…The latter category is of interest to this work. It is important that indirectly self-destructive behaviours almost imperceptibly cause harmful side effects, although a great number of such behaviours are classified as being the (broader) standard or norm by most people [4,5].…”
