A case of COVID-19 with papulovesicular rash that progressed to retiform purpura, accompanied by cherry angiomas

Abstract: CONTEXT: Various skin manifestations have been reported in coronavirus disease. It may be difficult to determine the etiology of these lesions in view of the increased frequency of handwashing during the pandemic, along with occurrences of irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis due to disinfectant use; usage of herbal medicine and supplements to strengthen the immune system; and urticarial or maculopapular drug eruptions due to COVID-19 treatment. “…To our knowledge, this is the first case of a child developing eruptive angiomas linked to the COVID-19 vaccine. In addition to the previously mentioned cases, a survey of the literature only revealed reports of eruptive cherry angiomas due to the COVID-19 virus itself ( 8 ) and development of pseudoangiomatosis due to both the virus and the vaccine ( 9 , 10 ). It is important to distinguish between the virus and the vaccine as triggering factor in order to establish the correct safety profile of the vaccines.…”

“…Vascular lesions including eruptive cherry angiomas have been reported secondary to COVID-19, which could be mediated by angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors; subsequent endothelial damage has also been reported [5,6]. Mohta et al have reported 12 cases of eruptive pseudoangiomatosis, a similar vascular lesion that commonly occurs in the pediatric age group and is associated with ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 coronavirus vaccine (recombinant) in India [7].…”

“…Agirgol et al 5 described the appearance of diffuse cherry angioma-like lesions on the upper body of a middle-aged man, who had previously developed an erythematous, papulovesicular and later livedoidrash during mild COVID-19. Analogously, Caldarelli et al 6 described typical EP in a middle-aged woman with concurrent COVID-19 pneumonia.…”
