Association between variation in the genes DDAH1 and DDAH2 and hypertension among Uygur, Kazakh and Han ethnic groups in China

Abstract: Our results indicated that the C-allele of rs3087894 in DDAH1 was a risk factor for hypertension in the Kazakh group but a protective factor in the Uygur group.

“…Similarly, a "second look" into the proteases that allow for intracellular non-canonical complement activation may also be informative. For example, a novel functional polymorphism in the CTSL gene alters blood pressure (Mbewe-Campbell et al, 2012), and changes in the CTSL gene promotor have been connected with hypertension (Chen et al, 2015)potential changes, however, in C3 processing within the endothelium are unexplored. Interestingly, complement seems not to play a role in normal renal function.…”

“…However, hypertension was less prevalent compared to other international studies. Whether this is related to sample volume and methodology or ethnicity, which is known to plays a major role in the prevalence of hypertension, its response to treatment and related mortality; needs to be clarified by further study (19)(20)(21)(22) . Diabetes has the highest incidence in our patients compared to other studies.…”

“…DDAH2 encodes a dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase, which is important in nitric oxide generation by regulating the cellular concentrations of methylarginines. DDAH2 has been demonstrated to be associated with various types of disease, including hypertension ( 28 ), type 2 diabetes ( 29 ) and cancer. Upregulation of DDAH2 is associated with the invasiveness of lung adenocarcinoma by inducing proliferation and capillary-like tube formation of vascular endothelial cells ( 30 ).…”
