Abstract:Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar a distinção entre ética e diagnóstico na psicanálise e na psiquiatria, a partir do estudo de caso de Jacinta Passos (1914-1973), militante política e escritora baiana, diagnosticada como esquizofrênica, sendo que em decorrência de tal diagnóstico foi posteriormente excluída do corpo social. Concluiu-se que há diferenças relevantes entre ambas as disciplinas e que a psicanálise tem contribuições éticas importante a dar ao campo da saúde mental.
