Low miR-1273a expression predicts poor prognosis of colon cancer and facilitates tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion

Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been indicated to be frequently dysregulated in various cancers and promising biomarkers for colon cancer. The present study aimed to assess the prognostic significance and biological function of miR-1273a in colon cancer. The expression levels of miR-1273a was estimated using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Kaplan-Meier survival curves and Cox regression analysis were used to evaluate the prognostic value of miR-1273a in patients of colon cancer. The effects of miR-12… Show more

“…Colon Cancer is a refractory disease with high morbidity and mortality worldwide. [16][17][18] Although surgical resection can improve the prognosis of some colon cancer patients, the prognosis of colon cancer with perineural invasion is still poor. [19][20][21] Therefore, exploring the biology and novel prognostic biomarkers of Colon Cancer with perineural invasion may provide clinicians new tools to treat the disease.…”

“…In developing countries, around one quarter of patients with COAD are in an advanced stage at diagnosis, and thus have lost their opportunities for obtaining a radical surgery [3]. Even though the consensus policy in the diagnosis and treatment of COAD has developed rapidly in recent years, it is still an important issue because of its high prevalence and poor prognosis [4]. Therefore, novel prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for COAD are urgently needed in order to overcome these problems.…”
