Continuous blood purification treatment for endotoxin-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome

Abstract: This study aimed to explore the effects of continuous blood purification (CBP) treatment in pigs affected with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). A total of 12 healthy male pigs, weighing 12±1.8 kg, were randomly and equally assigned to the control and experimental groups. The ARDS pig model was prepared by intravenous injections of endotoxin (20 µg/kg). The control group was given conventional supportive therapy, while the experimental group was given continuous veno-venous hemofiltration therapy. Du… Show more

“…In the previous study, it was found that CBP could remove humoral mediators which included cytokines from the blood and it was used to treat multiple organ failure (MOF) . CBP has been generally performed for the renal replacement treatment in patients with serious syndrome, as CBP could nonselectively eliminate stabilize hemodynamics and inflammatory mediators, it has also been well‐known in the past years in treatment of sepsis, congestive heart failure, multi‐organ dysfunction, and other diseases . CBP was gradually taking the place of intermittent hemodialysis as a renal replacement therapy for patients who were in severe conditions .…”
