Chikungunya is a viral disease caused by the pathogen of the same name, of the Alphavirus genus, which can infect humans through the bite of an infected female Aedes aegypti mosquito and Aedes albopictus, the same as dengue. In children, the main clinical manifestations are rash, fever, nausea, vomiting, myalgia and bilateral arthralgia, mainly in the phalanges, wrists and ankles. The diagnosis is performed mainly through the patient's clinic, requiring a good anamnesis to identify the main risk conditions. OBJECTIVE: To describe the epidemiological profile of pediatric hospitalizations due to Chikungunya in Brazil, highlighting the main signs and symptoms associated with hospitalization. METHODS: An epidemiological, observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out using data from the Disease Information and Notification System (SINAN-DATASUS) of the Ministry of Health regarding confirmed cases of Chikungunya that occurred in all units of the Brazilian federation, in the period from 2017 to 2021, among individuals aged 0 to 11 years. RESULT: A total of 287,898 patients were evaluated according to the geographical distribution of prevalence and factors associated with hospitalization, with fever, severe arthralgia, myalgia and headache being the most common symptoms. Also, the signs and symptoms that most increased hospitalizations were leukopenia, vomiting and petechiae. The rate of hospitalizations for Chikungunya in children aged 0 to 11 years was less than 3% and there were no deaths related to the infection. CONCLUSION: The evolution of Chikungunya in children, despite the association with comorbidities, signs and symptoms, was benign. The health professional must prevent the infection from progressing to hospitalizations, recognizing and intervening in the main signs that lead to this outcome.

Syphilis ist eine Krankheit, die durch das Bakterium Treponema pallidum verursacht wird, das zu einem großen Teil durch sexuelle Übertragung erworben wird. Angeborene Syphilis ist eine ansteckende Erkrankung der vertikalen Übertragung (von der Mutter auf den Fötus). Ziel dieser Studie war es, die Anzahl der gemeldeten Fälle von angeborener Syphilis im Norden Brasiliens zwischen 2014 und 2019 darzustellen und das epidemiologische Profil der Fälle zu charakterisieren. Deskriptive, querschnittliche und retrospektive Recherchen wurden mit Hilfe der DATASUS-Datenbank durchgeführt. Im Ausgewertetzeitraum stieg die Zahl der Fälle, insbesondere der Bundesstaat Amazonas, der die meisten Meldungen vorlegte. In Bezug auf die Schwangerschaftsvorsorge erbringen Frauen durchschnittlich viermal mehr Leistungen als diejenigen, die dies nicht taten. Frauen mit mütterlicher Schulnote von der 5. bis zur 8. unvollständigen Grundschule hatten eine höhere Anzahl von Fällen der Krankheit. Obwohl die nördliche Region eine hohe pränatale Leistung aufwies, wurden die meisten Fälle von angeborener Syphilis erst nach der Entbindung diagnostiziert, was auf falsche Interpretationen in Bezug auf die Tests und daraus resultierende Fehler in Diagnose und Behandlung hindeutet. Da die frühe Form (Entstehung bis zum 2. Lebensjahr) die Mehrheit der Anzahl der Fälle ist, gibt es eine günstige Entwicklung der Krankheit.Schulierung und Einkommen scheinen Faktoren zu sein, die die späte Diagnose der Krankheit beeinflussen. Es besteht ein Bedarf an erhöhten behandelten Partnern, wodurch die Übertragung von Syphilis und folglich angeborener Syphilis reduziert wird.

Syphilis is a disease caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum, acquired, in large part, by sexual transmission. Congenital syphilis is a contagious disease of vertical transmission (from mother to fetus). This study aimed to present the number of reported cases of congenital syphilis in northern Brazil, between 2014 and 2019, and to characterize the epidemiological profile of the cases. Descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective research was carried out using DATASUS database. There was an increase in the number of cases in the period evaluated, especially the State of Amazonas, which presented the highest number of notifications. Regarding prenatal care, an average of four times more women perform than those who did not. Women with maternal school grade from the 5th to 8th incomplete elementary school had a higher number of cases of the disease. Although the northern region had a high prenatal performance, most cases of congenital syphilis were diagnosed only after delivery, indicating erroneous interpretations regarding the tests and consequent error in diagnosis and treatment. Since the early form (emergence until the 2nd year of life) is the majority of the number of cases, there is a favorable evolution of the disease.Schooling and income seem to be factors that influence the late diagnosis of the disease. There is a need for increased treated partners, reducing the transmission of syphilis and, consequently, congenital syphilis.
