Objective: To analyze the association between sociodemographic profile, health profile and the quality of life of caregivers of elderly people diagnosed with dementia. Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a geriatric outpatient unit with 35 elderly caregivers diagnosed with dementia. A socio-demographic and health characterization form was used as well as the WHOQOL-bref scale. To verify the association of the variables, the Spearman or Pearson correlation tests were applied, according to the normality of the data. Results: A moderate association between caregiver age and quality of life was found, as well as between total time of care and quality of life, which reveals that the care provided to the elderly with dementia has repercussions on the quality of life. The domains of the WHOQOL-bref with the highest means were Social and Physical Relations, and those with lower mean values were Psychological and Environmental. Conclusion: The identification of conditions that influence the quality of life of caregivers of elderly people with dementia allows actions to promote, protect and recover the health and well-being of those who provide care to be established, so that this care is both for themselves and for the elderly.

Cognitive and functional assessment about elderly people users of health public service

Objective: To evaluate the functional capacity, cognition and mood in three different care models for older adults. Method: A cross-sectional study conducted in 2014 with 140 older adults (37 institutionalized, 53 hospitalized and 50 outpatients). The MMSE, Clock Drawing Test (CDT), Activities of Daily Living Scale -ADLs (Katz, Lawton) and the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) were applied. Results: Of those institutionalized, the majority were totally dependent for ADLs and 100% presented cognitive decline. Of those hospitalized and the outpatients, the majority were independent for ADLs, with 62.3% and 48.0% presenting cognitive decline, respectively. The minority presented depressive symptoms. The results indicated that age was a predictor of cognitive decline and the likelihood of prevalence in hospitalized and outpatient older adults increased by 8.7% for each year of life. Conclusion: It is important to pay attention to the cognitive and functional performance of older adults with the aim of preventing their decline, which is so frequent in the public health services in Brazil.Keywords: Older adult; Daily Activities; Cognition. resumen Objetivo: Evaluar la capacidad funcional, cognitiva y el estado de ánimo en tres modelos diferentes de la atención a las personas mayores. Método: Estudio transversal comparativo realizado en el año 2014 con 140 ancianos (37 institucionalizados, 53 hospitalizados y 50 ambulatorios). Aplicado el MMSE, test del reloj, Actividades de la Vida Diaria Escala (Katz, Lawton) y Escala de Depresión Geriátrica. Resultados: El institucionalizada, la mayoría totalmente dependiente para ADL y el 100% tenían deterioro cognitivo. En hospitales y clínicas, muchos independiente para ADL, con el 62,3% y el 48% con el deterioro cognitivo, respectivamente, la minoría tenía síntomas depresivos. Los resultados indicaron que la edad es un predictor de deterioro cognitivo y las posibilidades de prevalencia en hospitalizados y ambulatorios ancianos aumento del 8,7% por cada año de vida. Conclusión: Cabe destacar la importancia de dar atención al rendimiento cognitivo y funcional de las personas mayores a la prevención disminución de éstos, tan frecuentes en los servicios de salud pública en Brasil.

RESUMO: Objetivou compreender práticas cotidianas de Agentes Comunitários de Saúde na atenção à saúde de idosos. Estudo de caso de abordagem qualitativa, fundamentado no referencial teórico de Certeau acerca do cotidiano, cujos participantes foram oito Agentes de equipes de saúde da família do município de Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brasil. Adotou-se a entrevista individual utilizando roteiro semiestruturado. As entrevistas foram realizadas em maio de 2016, gravadas e submetidas à análise de conteúdo. As práticas cotidianas dos Agentes na atenção à saúde de idosos envolvem estratégias e táticas. As visitas domiciliares e os grupos de educação em saúde destacaram-se no cuidado aos idosos. Na prática cotidiana, os Agentes revelaram dificuldades associadas à não efetivação das estratégias do sistema de saúde. Com base nestes achados, torna-se necessária a implementação das estratégias de abrangência nacional para a atenção aos idosos, como subsídio para as práticas dos Agentes, potencializando a atenção à saúde aos usuários. COTIDIANO DE AGENTES COMUNITÁRIOS DE SAÚDE COM IDOSOS SEGUNDO O REFERENCIAL DE CERTEAU DAILY WORK OF COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS INVOLVING THE ELDERLY ACCORDING TO CERTEAU'S FRAMEWORKABSTRACT: We aimed to understand daily practices of community health workers in elderly health care. Qualitative case study, based on Certeau's theoretical framework of the daily. The participants were eight workers from family health teams in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Individual interviews were undertaken using a semistructured script. The interviews were held in May 2016, recorded and submitted to content analysis. The workers' daily practices in elderly health care involve strategies and tactics. The home visits and health education groups stood out in elderly care. In daily practice, the workers revealed difficulties associated with the fact that health system strategies are not put into effect. Based on these findings, nationwide strategies need to be implemented for elderly care to support the workers' practices, enhancing health care for the users.
