Resumo: Com o objetivo de avaliar a ocorrência de violência física grave entre parceiros íntimos como fator de risco para inadequação no rastreio do câncer do colo do útero, foi desenvolvido um estudo do tipo caso-controle com aplicação de formulário multidimensional com 640 usuárias da Estratégia Saúde da Família do Município de Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. As mulheres que não realizaram o exame colpocitológico nos últimos três anos foram consideradas como casos. Os resultados demonstraram que as variáveis abusos contra a mulher (ORajustada = 2,2; IC95%: 1,1-4,4) e a coocorrência do evento no casal (ORajustada = 3,8; IC95%: 1,4-9,8) como fatores de risco à inadequação no rastreio da doença. O abuso de álcool pela mulher se mostrou como modificador de efeito para a não realização do exame pelas vítimas (ORajustada = 10,2; IC95%: 1,8-56,4) e nos casos de coocorrência de violência (ORajustada = 8,5; IC95%: 1,4-50,7). Além dos fatores já reconhecidos na causalidade das violências entre parceiros íntimos, os resultados apontam para relação de risco entre as experiências abusivas vivenciadas pelas mulheres e a inadequação do rastreamento. Desse modo, ampliar o olhar sobre o absenteísmo das mulheres aos exames deve ser considerado, já que esse indicador pode desvelar demandas não percebidas facilmente pelas equipes de saúde.

Objective: to describe the understanding of rural women about the purpose and access to Pap smear. Methods: qualitative study conducted with 15 women. Data collection was carried out through a semi-structured interview script, by adopting content analysis. Results: the study found that women had insufficient understanding about the reason to perform the examination, both in the matter of prevention and regarding diagnosis of cervical cancer. Women have also demonstrated difficulties to perform the examination by the difficult access to the cytological examination and by the little frequency of the Family Health Strategy team in going the rural communities evaluated. Conclusion: the understanding of the purpose of Pap smear is insufficient and access is inappropriate. This condition is a risk to the onset of cervical cancer in rural women.

This study evaluates the contribution of sociodemographic, clinical, and psychological variables to quality of life (QoL) of women with cervical cancer in the follow-up phase. This cross-sectional study, conducted at the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Lisbon, included 200 women with cervical cancer during follow-up. Patients were assessed on QoL (EORTC QLQ-C30), body image and specific symptoms (EORTC QLQ-CX24), psychological morbidity (HADS), social support (SSSS), emotional expression (CECS), and spirituality (SpREUK). Education and social support contributed positively to QoL, whereas body image and symptoms contributed negatively. Body image played a moderating role in the relationship between depression and QoL, but not between anxiety and QoL. Spirituality and emotional expression did not moderate the relationship between anxiety/depression and QoL. Health professionals should reference and monitor women with cervical cancer, providing support at the diagnosis and follow-up phase since physical and psychological symptoms, resulting from the disease, remain after the end of treatment and contribute negatively to their QoL. Interventions should focus on these particular outcomes to promote patients' QoL.
