This study aims to evaluate the profile and knowledge of physiotherapists and occupational therapists from Minas Gerais about the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) application in professional practice, trying to understand the reason for the underutilization of this universal instrument in Brazil. Observational and cross-sectional study was conducted using an online questionnaire prepared by specialists. An email was sent to all physiotherapists and occupational therapists enrolled in the Regional Council of the 4th Region. Of 22,121 emails, 1,313 were answered. 53% of the sample had graduate certificate, 65% had between two to ten years of experience, and 62% reported that clinics and patients’ houses are the places where they work. 72% of the professionals knew the ICF and 84% correctly answered the meaning of the acronym. However, 71% of professionals are unaware of the fields that make up this classification. The first contact with the ICF happened during graduation to 50% of professionals, and 28% had never had contact with ICF. 74% reported not using it in clinical practice. However, 82% of the participants believed that the use of ICF is viable in clinical practice. Most professionals had graduate certificate, worked in clinics and patients’ homes and, although most of them claim to know the ICF, the largest portion of the sample reported they did not use this classification in their professional lives, even though believing the ICF use is feasible. The lack of knowledge about the ICF prevents professionals from complying with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Brazilian National Health Council (CNS) and COFFITO (Brazilian Federal Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy) on the adoption of this instrument in exchange of information about health and clinical practice.

Objetivo: analisar como os agricultores avaliam os níveis de barreiras e de facilitadores de fatores ambientais relacionados à saúde para o desempenho de suas atividades e participação. Método: estudo quantitativo transversal, realizado com 255 agricultores de dois ambientes rurais por meio de um instrumento baseado na Classificação Internacional de Funcionalidade, Incapacidade e Saúde. Realizou-se análise estatística descritiva e inferencial. Resultados: quanto aos serviços de saúde, os trabalhadores do ambiente I evidenciaram maiores níveis de facilitadores do que barreiras. O apoio e as atitudes individuais de profissionais de saúde foram avaliados como: facilitadores consideráveis para os agricultores do ambiente I; moderados para os do II; e, como nenhuma barreira para o desempenho das atividades e participação nos dois ambientes. Conclusão: a percepção dos agricultores em relação a barreiras e facilitadores dos serviços de saúde perpassa: pela localização geográfica da unidade de ESF, pela questão do vínculo, pelas alterações decorrentes do processo de envelhecimento que podem diminuir o desempenho no trabalho e ocasionar uma busca maior na procura aos serviços.

“…Transcendendo a lógica biomédica baseada na etiologia das doenças e também a compreensão social dos processos de incapacidade, a noção de funcionalidade, segundo seus diversos componentes (condição de saúde, estrutura e função corporal, atividades e participação social), é influenciada pela interrelação entre fatores do contexto pessoal e ambiental. People with physical disabilities may, in interaction with facilitators and barriers, modify their participation in society. The environment, in the panorama of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), plays a relevant role in health and in the expression of functioning. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the influence of environmental factors on physical disability, based on the theoretical framework of the ICF. A systematic review of the literature was performed based on the recommendations of the following documents: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology Statement (STROBE). The studies selected confirmed the theoretical precepts of the ICF. The interference of the physical and social environment, in general, might be attributed to different clinical conditions, especially in neurology, both in quantitative and qualitative studies. Methodological limitations were observed that may be obstacles to consolidating some guidelines, which should encourage further research on the subject with judicious methods, validated instruments and carefully selected samples.
