The purpose of this study is to provide a deeper understanding and uncover the main topics of discourse regarding emerging trends and follow up on the evolution of the Camino de Santiago to highlight the connections between them by looking at and comparing the papers representing this field's core. Indexed to Scopus, the authors analysed 62 papers, applying content analysis techniques to identify the main research lines. Authors found three main research perspectives: evolution in political trends and tourism strategies, the digitalisation process and its impact on the pilgrimage experience, as well as the globalisation surge in the past years. This research impacts the several stakeholders intertwined with the Camino de Santiago, be it public institutions or private operators that need to explore and understand these collective dynamics.
