MINI-STUMPS PRODUCTIVITY AND ROOTING OF Khaya ivorensis A. CHEV MINI-CUTTINGS TREATED WITH IBA

Abstract: It's possible to propagate Khaya ivorensis by mini-cuttings without exogenous auxin. It's possible to propagate Khaya ivorensis by mini-cuttings from youthful stock plants. Khaya ivorensis mini-stump were tolerant to the successive mini-cuttings harvests. More vigorous root system were obtained with increasing IBA concentration.

“…Efforts of developing cultivars that are genetically and ecologically adapted to the adverse environments and Hypsipyla pest incidence are important to conserving valuable germplasm and sustainable mahogany plantation culture [1,15,24]. Previous studies assessed the influence of cutting length, IBA, age of stock plant, species, and position of cuttings on shoots on the rooting efficiency of Khaya and Entandrophagma species in the vegetative propagation system [4,5,10,16,19,[25][26][27].…”

“…The maintenance of 100% of the leaf area positively influenced the growth and radicial architecture, presenting higher averages of SA, RV, and DMR. A well-formed and robust root system can increase the chances of survival and clones establishment under field conditions (Barroso et al, 2018). The presence of leaves is essential for the rooting of mini-cuttings because the young leaves and buds are synthesis sites for auxins and cofactors that are translocated via phloem to the base of the stalk, stimulating the exchange activity, differentiation of the xylem, and root initiation (Hartmann et al, 2011).…”

“…Vegetative propagation methods can be used for the rescue and multiplication of genotypes of interest or for the genetic conservation of the species. But, establishing efficient rescue protocols for tropical forest species is a challenge to be overcome, given the plasticity with which these species respond to conventional treatments with indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) (Santos et al, 2011;Barbosa Filho et al, 2018;Barroso et al, 2018;Araújo et al, 2019). However, once established, vegetative propagation can overcome problems such as the restricted period of the year in which perennial species produce seeds, variation in the physiological vigor of seeds, difficulties in seed collection, processing and storage, and genetic variations between progenies.…”
