The feasibility of a compact, modular sensing system able to quantify the presence of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) in nutrient-containing fertilizer water was investigated. Direct UV-Vis spectroscopy combined with optical fibers were employed to design modular compact sensing systems able to record absorption spectra of nutrient solutions resulting from local producer samples. N, P, and K spectral interference was studied by mixtures of commercial fertilizer solutions to simulate real conditions in hydroponic productions. This study demonstrates that the use of bands for the quantification of nitrogen with linear or logarithmic regression models does not produce analytical grade calibrations. Furthermore, multivariate regression models, i.e., Partial Least Squares (PLS), which consider specimens interference, perform poorly for low absorbance nutrients. The high interference present in the spectra has proven to be solved by an innovative self-learning artificial intelligence algorithm that is able to find interference modes among a spectral database to produce consistent predictions. By correctly modeling the existing interferences, analytical grade quantification of N, P, and K has proven feasible. The results of this work open the possibility of real-time NPK monitoring in Micro-Irrigation Systems.

Resumo: A leucena (Leucaena leucocephala), originária da América Central, produz grandes quantidades de sementes viáveis, o que permite sua propagação em larga escala, e possui crescimento rápido, podendo chegar a 7 metros de altura. O uso da fertirrigação favorece a absorção de nutrientes e o maior crescimento das mudas de leucena, devido à aplicação de solução nutritiva menos concentrada e, consequentemente, com menor condutividade elétrica. Nesse sentido, objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a viabilidade da fertirrigação por capilaridade utilizando diferentes soluções nutritivas na produção de mudas de leucena. Empregou-se o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado e os tratamentos constaram de quatro concentrações de solução nutritiva aplicados via fertirrigação por capilaridade (0, 50, 100 e 150%). Duas avaliações de crescimento de forma não destrutiva foram realizadas aos 25 e 40 dias após a semeadura (DAS) e uma destrutiva aos 55 DAS. As variáveis avaliadas foram altura de plantas, diâmetro do caule, número de folhas, acúmulo de biomassa, além dos índices de qualidade de mudas. A análise dos dados permite concluir que as mudas de leucena podem ser produzidas entre as concentrações de 70 a 100% de solução nutritiva via fertirrigação por capilaridade.Palavras-chave: Espécies florestais. Abstract:The leucena (Leucaena leucocephala), native to Central America, produces large quantities of viable seeds, which allows its propagation on a large scale; it is also fast-growing and can reach 7 m in height. The use of fertigation favours the absorption of nutrients, and the greater growth of the leucena seedlings, due to the application of less concentrated nutrient solutions of a consequently lower electrical conductivity. However, this practice requires a lot of manpower, and it is necessary to find alternative technologies that would allow a reduction in the costs of fertigation. The aim of this study therefore was to evaluate the viability of fertigation by capillary action, using different concentrations of a standard nutrient solution in the production of seedlings of leucena. A completely randomised experimental design was used, with treatments comprising four concentrations of nutrient solution (0, 50, 100 and 150%) applied by capillary fertigation. Two nondestructive evaluations of growth were carried out at 25 and 40 days after sowing (DAS), and one destructive evaluation at 55 DAS. The variables to be evaluated were: plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves and biomass accumulation, besides the quality indices of the seedlings. Analysis of the data leads to the conclusion that seedlings of leucena can be produced at concentrations of between 70 and 100% of the nutrient solution through fertigation by capillary action..

One of the main stages in the production system of a crop is the production of quality seedlings since it influences the plants' final performance in the field and their production. The study aimed to evaluate different nutrient solutions in the production of Cambuci pepper seedlings. The design used was a complete randomized design, with six treatments corresponding to the nutrient solutions proposed for the pepper crop by Castellane and Araújo, Claudio Roberto, Hoagland, and Arnon, besides the commercial products Plenan® and Biobokashi®, and a control treatment without fertilization, with six replications. The final evaluation was carried out 45 days after sowing. The following variables were analyzed: stem diameter, plant height, leaf dry matter, shoot dry matter, the number of leaves, relative chlorophyll index ("Spad"), and Dickson quality index. The seedlings subjected to the applications of Claudio Roberto and Hoagland and Arnon solutions have the highest heights and number of leaves, the largest stem diameter, shoot dry matter, leaf area, and Dickson quality index with 2.60 and 2.51 mm, 0.54 and 0.62 g, 38.64 and 41.91 cm2, and 0.107; 0.097, respectively. The Hoagland and Arnon nutrient solution provided the best characteristics to produce Cambuci pepper seedlings.
