Characterization and Evaluation of Silver-Nanoparticle-Incorporated in Composite Graphite Aiming at their Application in Biosensors

Abstract: -Biosensors based on nanomaterial composites have been investigated for their potential to function as high sensitivity signal response devices. In the present study, we report the fabrication of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on a graphite epoxy composite electrode (GEC) and mixed with the polyaniline (a conductive emeraldine salt form polymer) composite electrode (AgNPs/PANI/GEC), in order to compare the performance of the generated electrochemical response signals. Cyclic voltammetry tests were conducted to c… Show more

“…Many technological fields have incorporated metal nanoparticles in their applications, such as microelectronics [1], sensor applications [2,3], magnetic devices [4], dye removal [5], and antimicrobial activities [6]. Silver nanoparticles are one of the most interesting metal nanoparticles that have unique properties of being optically and catalytically active, showing elevated thermal and electrical conductivities.…”

“…The preservation of the quasi-reversible electrode process and the increase in peak currents for the nanocomposites prove that AgNPs, ZnONPs, and Ag-ZnONPs improved the electrochemical properties of PANI-GCE [19]. The high surface area to volume ratio of the nanomaterials and the biocompatibility of PANI make the nanocomposites be good candidates for application in electrochemical devices [99].…”

“…A concentration-dependent influence of AgNPs on the enhancement in the electrical properties of CNFs was observed. Another study by Santos et al [ 58 ] investigated the electrochemical response of AgNPs incorporated in composite graphite for the fabrication of electrochemical biosensor. Three types of composite electrodes were used, i.e., graphite–epoxy composite dispersion (GEC), the incorporation of AgNPs in GEC (AgNPs/GEC), and mixed with polyaniline (AgNPs/PANI/GEC).…”
