Influence of PLGA and PLGA-PEG on the dissolution profile of oxaliplatin

Abstract: SbstractOxaliplatin was inserted into polymeric matrices aiming to study the interaction of this drug with these polymers and its capability to diffuse to the environment. Tested polymers were: (1) polyethylene glycol (PEG), (2) poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), and (3) a copolymer of them (PLGA-PEG). The latter two were synthesized by us using polycondensation in bulk. Oxaliplatin was included in the matrices by the melt mixing process followed by casting. Fourier tran sform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), … Show more

“…A linear relationship between PEG content at 3.65 ppm and PLGA content at 4.82 and 5.23 ppm (insert in Figure ) was observed, R 2 = 0.935. The data confirm that polymer blending successfully produced NPs with different PEG contents …”

“…The Weight average molecular weight (Mw) for PBS was 7.5 kDa and the polydispersity (Mw/Mn) was 1.4. This engineered low molecular weight is useful to increase the actives species release from the delivery system, as proved elsewhere …”

“…According to this method, the higher the RMSE value for a comparison between a sample and its reference, the more significant the difference among their spectra . Thus, the RMSE test is an excellent indicator of small variations in the spectra, which cannot be visually identified.…”

“…This technique consists in heating the tumor cells, increasing their sensitivity to other treatments, as well as leading them to death. As the tumor cells are considerably less resistant to heat than the surrounding healthy cells, the hyperthermia treatment is cytoselective, producing fewer side effects in comparison to classic treatment of neoplasms …”
