“…Pegorari e Tavares (2014) encontraram uma prevalência de fragilidade de 12,8% em idosos brasileiros a residir em áreas urbanas, caracterizando-se os participantes frágeis por apresentarem idades superiores aos 80 anos, tomarem cinco ou mais medicamentos diá-rios, apresentarem maior frequência de hospitalização recente, maior dependência para a realização de atividades de vida diária e maior sintomatologia depressiva. Já em idosos brasileiros rurais, foi encontrada uma prevalên-cia de fragilidade de 23,8%, com um perfil caracterizado maioritariamente por mulheres, idade avançada e negativa perceção do estado de saúde (Júnior, Carneiro, Coqueiro, Santos, & Fernandes, 2014). Uma outra investigação realizada na Europa concluiu que a prevalência de fragilidade era maior nos países do sul, provavelmente devido a fatores socioeconómicos, educacionais e sanitários (Santos-Eggimann, Cuénoud, Spagnoli, & Junod, 2009 Pfeiffer, 1975).…”
