The nursery plants supply is one of the most important factors that limites blueberries production in some areas, due to some propagation difficulties observed on this species. In this way, this study aimed to evaluate substrates and IBA application methods on 'Powderblue' blueberries (Vaccinium ashei) minicuttings rooting, as well as to verify the rooting development in different periods. The study was divided in two experiments. The first one aimed to evaluate 'Powderblue' blueberry minicuttings rooting in three substrates (pine bark, carbonized rice husk and vermiculite) in response to two indolebutyric acid (IBA) application methods: 50% alcohol solution and talc. The second experiment aimed to evaluate 'Powderblue' blueberry minicuttings rooting using the best substrate recorded in the first trial (pine bark) and two IBA application methods associated to three periods of rooting access, in order to obtain the ideal rooting period and root development. In the first experiment the rooting percentage presented significant difference among the substrates; the higher percentage of rooted minicuttings occurred in pine bark substrate (68%). Regarding the methods used to IBA application, the talc method was more efficient to promote minicuttings rooting. In the second experiment, it was observed an increase in cutting rooting percentage from 55 to 84%, according to the evaluated seasons; however, the IBA application method did not influence the rooting percentage. Therefore, to produce 'Powderblue' blueberry plants from minicuttings it is recommended to use pine bark as substrate and talc as method to IBA application, transplanting the nurseries at 110 days after planting.

Berries are rich in bioactive compounds, such as vitamins, fiber, macro and microelements and have high content of polyphenols, plant secondary metabolites. The consumption of a diet rich in polyphenols has in epidemiological studies been associated with a lower incidence of degenerative diseases including cancer, cardiovascular and other diseases. The preventive effects are often attributed, in part, to phenolic compounds and suggested to be due to their antioxidant, and antiinflammatory effects as well as other beneficial effects. This review describes the effect of cultivation methods and environmental factors on the composition and content of phenolic compounds in some berries. Methods for extraction and analyses of phenolic compounds and reported potential mechanisms of action through which polyphenol compounds may exert protective actions are also reviewed.

ResumoO presente trabalho estudou a necessidade do uso da auxina exógena Ácidoindol-butirico (AIB) no enraizamento de estacas caulinares da Varronia curassavica Jacq. O experimento foi conduzido em casa-de-vegetação com controle parcial de temperatura e umidade, na área experimental do setor de Olericultura do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Triângulo Mineiro (IFTM) em Uberaba, MG. Avaliaram-se os efeitos de diferentes doses do AIB no processo de enraizamento de estacas de erva baleeira (0, 200, 400, 600, 800 e 1000 mg L -1 ), posteriormente plantadas em tubetes contendo mistura de areia e vermiculita na casa-de-vegetação. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o em bloco casualizados, com seis tratamentos quantitativos e quatro repetições, totalizando 24 unidades experimentais. Após 65 dias, avaliou-se o enraizamento pelo índice de sobrevivência das estacas e a análise estatística foi feita através de análise de regressão. A análise nos mostra que o hormônio AIB exerce influência significativa sobre a porcentagem de plantas sobreviventes. A melhor dose do hormônio AIB para o enraizamento de estacas de erva baleeira, em relação ao maior numero de estacas brotadas, foi de 223 mg L -1 , ajustando-se o modelo de grau 2. Conclui-se que pode ser realizado um eficiente enraizamento da erva baleeira com dose de 223 mg L -1 de AIB, em condições ambientais semicontroladas. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, with partial control of temperature and humidity in the experimental area of Horticultural sector of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology (IFTM) in Uberaba, MG, Brazil. It has been evaluated the effects of different AIB doses in the rooting process of cuttings (0, 200, 400, 600, 800 e 1000 mg L -1 ), then planted in plastic tubes containing a mixture of sand and vermiculite in-house-vegetation. The experimental design was a randomized block with six quantitative treatments and four replications, totaling 24 experimental units. After 65 days, were evaluated the rooting by the survival rate of cuttings and statistical analysis was performed using regression analysis. The best dose of IBA hormone for rooting cuttings, for the largest number of sprouting, was 223 mg L -1 , by adjusting the degree of model 2. For other doses, do not differ significantly from the control. It is concluded that can be carried out efficiently rooting of the Varronia curassavica Jacq. at a dose of 223 mg L -1 IBA, in semi controlled environmental conditions.
