A systematic literature review on the joint replenishment problem solutions: 2006-2015

Abstract: Among all existing inventory replenishment models, this research was dedicated to the Joint Replenishment Problem (JRP), which consists in the replenishment of multiple items simultaneously, aiming total cost reduction. Literature has presented several optimal and approximated solutions to this problem, with different applications and techniques, which results in a large quantity of solution proposals. Therefore, this research aimed to map existing solutions to the problem in 2006-2015 in order to provide a gu… Show more

“…In a literature review of the JRP, Khouja & Goyal (2008) advocate the development of research on extensions and practical applications of the problem, which should continue receiving attention. Bastos et al (2017) verified a trend in this direction.…”

“…One of the extensions explicitly mentioned by Khouja & Goyal (2008) has to do with including products facing obsolescence or deterioration in the JRP, but from Bastos et al (2017) we can conclude that there continues to exist a lack of research in this field. In this line, Kouki et al ( 2016) state that despite the JRP having been broadly studied in the literature, the coordinating replenishment of multiple deteriorating items is still unexplored.…”

“…For a change, we consider a multi-product joint replenishment problem in a multiple-echelon distribution system with replenishment quantity constraints for all stocks. Furthermore, joint replenishment for one stock has gained much attention over the past years [12]. In previous studies, ordering costs of multiple products were considered in joint replenishment [13], which can reduce the ordering costs of an inventory system [14,15].…”

“…In the stochastic joint replenishment inventory system, the demand for each individual item is unknown but follows certain types of distributions; the problem is to decide the optimal parameters of a given inventory policy, e.g., (Balintfy, 1964;Atkins & Iyogun, 1988;Renberg & Planche, 1967;Kalpakam & Arivarignan, 1993;Viswanathan, 1997;Nielsen & Larsen, 2005;Özkaya et al, 2006). Most literature still presents applications to constant and dynamic deterministic demands; however, the study regarding stochastic demand has received increasing attention due to its practical relevance (Bastos et al, 2017). This work belongs to the growing literature on the stochastic joint replenishment.…”
