Effect of Self-Etching Primer Associated to Hydrofluoric acid or Silane on Bonding to Lithium Disilicate

Abstract: To evaluate the effect of combining 5% hydrofluoric acid (HF) and silane (SI) with the selfetching ceramic primer on the immediate and after 1-year of water storage on bonding efficacy, conditioning pattern (CP) and chemical interaction (CI) to the lithium disilicate. A total of 16 CAD/CAM blocks of lithium disilicate (LD) were cut into four square sections (n=64). For bonding efficacy evaluation, the LD specimens were divided into 4 groups (n=10): 1) HF+SI; 2) self-etching ceramic primer (MEP); 3) HF+MEP; 4) … Show more

“…Lower adhesion strength values with the one-step conditioning system were also reported by Prochnow et al 20 The glassy phase in the ceramic is etched by using prime liquid and Monoband Etch for creating low surface roughness. Siqueira et al 1 have indicated that the one-step conditioning system is used for the glassy phase when the ceramic surface was etched.…”

“…Several surface treatments regarding chemical bonding and micromechanical retention were suggested to enhance resin cement bonding to ceramics. 1,2 The best surface treatment to be utilized is determined through the composition of the ceramic. Similarly, the effect of etching protocols used on glass matrix ceramics has been examined by several studies.…”

“…Concomitantly, with clinical consideration, we decided to compare 2 ceramic pretreatments. Classically, the ceramic intaglio is conditioned with hydrofluoric acid (HF), allowing a selective elimination of the vitreous matrix causing a roughness of the ceramic and more surface energy (Siqueira et al 2019). Then, a primer containing organo-silane is applied to promote bifunctional and durable adhesion (Blatz et al 2003; Dejak and Mlotkowski 2008; Lise et al 2015).…”
