Introduction: Integrative and complementary health practices (ICHP) question the hegemony of the biomedical, technical and hospital paradigm, as they are an important axis in the process of redefining the health care model. Understanding how ICHP are offered to the elderly population can help to improve the production of changes in care and in the daily life of health services. Objective: To identify and summarize the scientific evidence on the provision of ICHP for the elderly in health services. Methods: This is a research protocol for a scoping review following the recommendations of the Extension for Scoping Reviews method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute. Studies will be collected in the following databases, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Web of Science, Scopus, Scielo, Online System for Searching and Analyzing Medical Literature (MEDLINE), Embase, Virtual Library in Health and gray literature. Two independent reviewers will perform screening, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Assessment Checklist. For the quality of evidence, the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation analysis will be used. Results: This review will provide information on the provision of ICHP for the elderly population in health services. Conclusions: This scoping review will provide evidence to help health professionals, managers and users to recognize more effective therapeutic inventions for promoting, preventing and protecting comprehensive health at different levels of care.

Despite the controversy about its efficacy, homeopathy is considered a medical practice alternative to the conventional medical model. Prevalence of homeopathy use varies greatly among countries and the literature has conflicting evidence about the relation between sociodemographic factors and health conditions associated with homeopathy use. We aim to estimate the prevalence of homeopathy use and its association with self-perceived health status, depression, and sociodemographic factors. We used data from 90,846 participants in the 2019 Brazilian National Survey of Health (PNS 2019), a population-based study with complex and probabilistic sampling. Sociodemographic and clinical data and information on homeopathy use during the last 12 months were collected. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) was used to assess depression. All variables were categorized. Logistic regression models were built to obtain crude and adjusted odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). The prevalence of homeopathy use was 0.99% (95%CI: 0.98-1.00). In the adjusted analysis, the following variables were associated with higher use of homeopathy: female gender, age above 51 years, white ethnicity, higher socioeconomic and educational attainment, residence in Southern/Southeastern Brazil, poorer self-reported health status, and depression. Brazil shows increased offer of complementary medicine, including homeopathy. Nevertheless, the use of homeopathy treatment is very low and clearly associated with a higher socioeconomic status, poorer self-reported health status, and depression.

ARTIGO ORIGINAL Efeitos da prática de mindfulness em idososEffects of mindfulness practice in the elderly Efectos de la práctica de mindfulness en personas mayores ResumoObjetivou-se investigar os efeitos de Mindfulness em idosos e verificar a relação entre EDG e variáveis socioeconômica. Trata-se de um ensaio clínico, com uma amostra de 34 idosos avaliados pré e pósintervenção selecionados em dois cenários distintos. Participaram desse estudo idosos com 60 anos e mais, de ambos os sexos residentes na cidade de Dourados MS. Para avaliação foram utilizados: questionário sociodemográficos, Escala de Depressão Geriátrica (EDG) e a intervenção proposta foi o protocolo de Mindfulness-Basead Health Promotion. A análise descritiva foi realizada por meio de cálculos de frequências e medidas de tendência central e de dispersão. Foi realizado teste t para amostras na comparação do instrumento EDG antes e após a intervenção. Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas nos escores de sintomas depressivos após a intervenção de Mindfulness. O teste de correlação mostrou que quanto maior a escolaridade menor são os escores de sintomas depressivos em idosos. O estudo não permitiu verificar os efeitos de Mindfulness na depressão já que a amostra continha poucos idosos com sinais de depressão, no entanto, a intervenção permitiu sublinhar a possibilidade da prática de Mindfulness para estimular o estilo de vida saudável em idosos.
