Improving Commitment to Agreements: The Role of Group Decision-Making Methods in the Perception of Sense of Justice and Satisfaction as Commitment Predictors

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the chances of commitment in group decision making process, modeled by a multicriteria method based on game theory and its evaluation in relation to the satisfaction and sense of justice of the players. We hypothesized that mathematical methods may favor group decision-making, reflecting higher levels of sense of justice and satisfaction and consequently greater chances of commitment to the agreements made. By means of 75 simulations, with five volunteers each, the h… Show more

“…Several factors seem to contribute to decision commitment. One of them is a well-structured group decision-making process where the team members participate in the discussions (Ziotti and Leoneti, 2020). The decision-makers' competence to address the concerns and questions raised during the discussion also plays a part in the commitment (Dooley and Fryxell, 1999).…”

“…The decision-making process itself plays a role in enhancing the commitment. In particular, the decision-makers' satisfaction with the process contributes to more commitment to the decision (Ziotti & Leoneti, 2020). The decision-makers will experience satisfaction with the decision-making process when the goals they set at the beginning of the meeting are met (Reinig, 2003).…”

“…A number of studies have looked at agents' commitment in group decision-making. Ziotti and Leoneti [21] presented a study to assess the likelihood of group decision-making commitment, modeled by a multicriteria method based on game theory. Moreover, they evaluated the group decision-making commitment in terms of the players' satisfaction and feeling of fairness.…”

“…Considering the hypothesis that the participation of stakeholders, such as volunteers and/or employees, through a well-structured decision-making process can improve the chances of decision implementation in organizations (Ziotti and Leoneti, 2020), and particularly in NPOs (Ohana et al, 2012), the present research aims to investigate the impact of a decision making method that uses the concept of equilibrium to the search of a particular NPO's fundraising decision-making solution. Among other approaches that also use equilibrium concept solution within their procedures (Deng et al, 2014;Wibowo and Deng, 2013;Huang et al, 2013), we are using a method that transform the structure of a group multicriteria decision-making problem, represented by a decision matrix and the respective weight vectors, into a non-cooperative game where the principles of equilibrium solution can be applied for solving the game (Leoneti, 2016).…”
