ESTIMATES OF GENETIC PARAMETERS USING RELM/BLUP FOR INTRA-POPULATIONAL GENETIC BREEDING OF Platonia insignis Mart.

Abstract: -The aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters to support the selection of bacuri progenies for a first cycle of recurrent selection, using the REML/BLUP (restricted maximum likelihood/ best linear unbiased prediction) procedure to estimate the variance components and genotypic values. Were evaluated twelve variables in a total of 210 fruits from 39 different seed trees, from a field trial with an experimental design of incomplete blocks with clonal replies among subplots. The three variables relate… Show more

“…This methodology has been widely used to estimate genetic parameters, select progenies, adaptability and stability. It is also used in breeding programs of perennial species, such as bacuri (Maia et al, 2016a), cajuí (small cashew) (Maia et al, 2016b), baru (Santos et al, 2014), Brazil nut (Pedrozo et al, 2015), passion fruit (Santos et al, 2015;Freitas et al, 2016;Silva et al, 2016), coffee (Rodrigues et al, 2013), peach (Bruna et al, 2012, and others. Nevertheless, references in the literature were not found regarding the use of this method in grape breeding.…”

“…Similarly to NPP in generation F 3 , two negative h 2 PO values were estimated for P100 using the ANOVA; REML was the only method that did not result in negative estimates (Tables 1 and 2). According to Maia et al (2016), this is a characteristic of the REML methodology, which shows a non-negativity restriction for the estimates of the variance components. Moreover, PH and NPP presented h 2 b estimates higher than 80 and 90%, respectively.…”
