-(Floristic survey of the Mata do Junco Wildlife Refuge, Capela, Sergipe State, Brazil). Seeking to expand the floristic studies for the Atlantic rainforest, we herein present, based on field trips (January 2011 to April 2013) and herbarium records, a list of vascular plants found in the Mata do Junco Wildlife Refuge, State of Sergipe, Northeastern Brazil. We registered a total of 380 species, 244 genera and 80 families, with 45 new occurrences for the Atlantic rainforest of the State of Sergipe. The most representative families were Fabaceae (36 species), Cyperaceae (29) and Poaceae (28). Herbs were the most representative regarding habit (167 species or 44%). We found two threatened species: Caesalpinia echinata Lam. and Campylocentrum pernambucense Hoehne, both in the "endangered" category. Overall, the results indicate that the Mata do Junco Wildlife Refuge is floristically similar to other areas of Atlantic rainforest in the State of Sergipe. Moreover, the existence of new records and of a threatened native species reinforces its importance for conservation.

Subsidies for propagation of native species in Brazil with medicinal potential: Calophyllum brasiliense Cambess

Calophyllum brasiliense Cambess. (guanandi) is a native species with medicinal potential and also generates expectation for commercial use (wood) and for recovery of degraded areas. These seeds have physical and mechanical dormancy, requiring techniques for dormancy release; knowledge of seed and seedling morphology that assists laboratory analysis and propagation of the species is also necessary. The objective of this study was to describe the morphological structures of the seeds and normal and abnormal seedlings of guanandi, and also investigate if complete extraction of the endocarp and the seed coat to overcome dormancy will affect the morphology and initial plant development, and consequently production of transplants. Guanandi seeds are large (1000 seed weight of 1480.9 g) with a hard seed coat; cotyledons account for most of the embryo and serve as a reserve; the embryonic axis is small (1.0-2.0 mm) in relation to the seed, yet it is differentiated. The seedlings have hypogeal cryptocotylar germination, with cotyledonary petioles, taproot, and epicotyl developing into a long stem and a tip protected by cataphylls. The main abnormalities in seedlings are related to the root system. Extraction of the endocarp and seed coat does not alter the morphology of seedlings and promotes their greater development, which may be an advantageous strategy.

RESUMO Este estudo teve como objetivo realizar as análises físicas e morfológicas de Canavalia dictyota Piper. Os frutos foram coletados na cidade de Ilha Grande, Piauí, Brasil. Foram realizadas: caracterização do fruto, da semente e da plântula. A análise morfométrica do fruto e da semente foi realizada por meio das dimensões de comprimento (cm), largura (mm) e espessura (mm). A caracterização da germinação e descrição morfológica das plântulas foi feita por meio de observações diárias e realizados desenhos ilustrativos em tempo real. Concluiu-se que os aspectos morfológicos da semente, nas fases de germinação e plântulas de C. dictyota Piper são bastante homogêneos em todas as fases e confiáveis para a identificação da espécie. A germinação é do tipo epígea, fanerocotiledonar. Os fatores abióticos existentes nas regiões de predominâncias das espécies do gênero Canavalia podem influenciar na sua morfologia.
