Effect of the environment and use of alternative products in the post-harvest of papaya

Abstract: Abstract This study aimed to establish an alternative treatment for post-harvest storage of Papaya (Carica papaya L.), var “Tainung 1” and to control major diseases at this stage. Two storage place were evaluated (room temperature and cold room); Six treatments (Control, Samurai 40ml/20l water, Serenade® 40ml/20l water, Sanatizer EUPROOFF® 10ml/20l water, EUPROOFF® + Serenade® + Samurai, Serenade® + Samurai), five storage periods (0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 days) and three seasons (December, January and Februa… Show more

“…Too much and/or low P might not induce the effects of this organic fertilizer. It contains N, P, and K together with some hydrophilic bacteria, which are in charge of nutrient cycling and disease control [13]. The effects of Kurojiru were not as high as expected; thus, its effects as a P supplier are strict limited, and the action of these bacteria is necessary to solubilize P. The use of organic fertility is a big challenge in soil-less systems, and a comparison between organic and conventional inorganic fertilizers treatments in `Rex` lettuce indicated that Bombardier, Espartan and Caos fertilizers were more effective [6].…”

“…the hydrophilic bacteria and some nutrients. This experiment is important because it is the most used organic fertilizer in Japan but there is no previous research, except for the application of such product as an alternative treatment for post-harvest storage of Papaya, where they could reduce the disease incidence [13]. Perhaps active bacteria contained in Kurojiru could function as biocontrol agent for this disease.…”

“…These characteristics predispose such fruits to many diseases that manifest themselves only in the postharvest, despite infections occurring in the preharvest. They also lead to disadvantages regarding handling after harvest, resulting in losses from the lack of timely commercialization or consumption of the product (GALO et al, 2014;MURAKAMI et al, 2020).…”

“…European fruit importers have also expressed concern about chemical residues in fruits. Importers signal that they will soon no longer accept fruit containing traces of fungicides or other agrochemicals (MURAKAMI et al, 2020).…”
