Iatrogenia Em Enfermagem

Abstract

The authors of this study, considering that the main cause of iatrogeny in nursing lies in the lack of the nurses theoretical preparation, analysed the knowledge of 51 nurses in the preparation of medications. They tried to correlate this knowledge with the length of undergraduate program and with previous hospital experience. No correlation was found.

“…There are several types of iatrogeny committed by the nursing team, and the most common are related to medications: omission of doses, administration in incorrect concentration, application at inappropriate times and through the inappropriate route, medication administration to the wrong patient, as well as the application of incorrect drugs, due to inappropriate substitutions or doubts regarding the transcription or interpretation of the medical transcription (1) . Besides those, other frequent iatrogenic events may be added, such as: pressure ulcers in bedridden patients, falls, fractures, suction and infection through nasogastric or nasoenteral tubes, phlebitis in peripheral venous catheters, infection in central venous catheters, bacteremia in indwelling urinary catheters, and others.…”
