Draft genome sequences of three NDM-1-producing Enterobacteriaceae species isolated from Brazil

Abstract: The emergence of multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae strains producing carbapenemases, such as NDM-1, has become a major public health issue due to a high dissemination capacity and limited treatment options. Here we describe the draft genome of three NDM-1-producing isolates: Providencia rettgeri (CCBH11880), Enterobacter hormaechei subsp. oharae (CCBH10892) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (CCBH13327), isolated in Brazil. Besides blaNDM-1, resistance genes to aminoglycosides [aadA1, aadA2, aac(6’)-Ib-cr] and qui… Show more

“…However, the emerging picture appeared complicated as several bacterial strains that had recently been described as P . rettgeri [3133] together with the Tunisian isolates formed a well-supported and tight group of bacteria (marked “clade B” in Fig 2 and S3 Fig), while the majority of P . rettgeri strains including the type strain DSM 4542T gave rise to a respective sister clade (marked “clade A”).…”

“…These results were obtained using Illumina HiSeq 2500, and quality control was provided using FastQC, obtaining a high-quality score of Q30 (results not shown). The G + C content for these isolates was 40.5%, considered common for this species [9,34,35]. Detailed sequencing characteristics of GMR-RA257 and GMR-RA1153 can be found in Table S1.…”

“…In this regard, in Peru, high levels of antimicrobial resistance have been reported in recent years, particularly in Gram-negative bacteria, most belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae ( 2 , 3 ). In the Latin American region, although the presence of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM-1)-producing Gram-negative bacteria has been documented in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela ( 4 , 5 ), genomic studies conducted to characterize NDM producers have been limited ( 6 8 ). We hereby report the draft genome sequence of the first NDM-1-producing Escherichia coli strain (2ECMBL) in Peru, isolated in 2017 from a urine culture of an elderly patient with pancreatic cancer.…”
