On changes and challenges: introducing the new editors-in-chief of the Jornal Brasileiro de Psiquiatria

Abstract

as editors-in-chief of the JBP, we observed a marked increase in the number of citations, a balanced distribution of publications among Brazilian states and research centers, the absence of gender bias among authors, and a diverse range of published topics 1 . These findings bear witness to the soundness of the editorial practices implemented by the editorial board of the JBP. In addition, an updating of the organizational structure and the fact that many talented young researchers have been invited to join the JBP as associate and junior editors led to increased publication rates, either quantitatively and qualitatively. During the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, editorial board meetings were held according to the schedule, and all issues were published as planned. We want to thank the editors-in-chief Antonio Egidio Nardi and José Carlos Appolinário, who have ended their long and productive tenure as editors of JBP, for their tireless dedication during the most critical years of the journal's existence and for helping to ensure a successful editorial transition.This issue of JBP marks the transition to a new editorial board.Thinking about future, we inform you that Prof. Mauro Mendlowicz will be joined by Profs. William Berger and Marcia Cristina Nascimento Dourado (IPUB/UFRJ), both nationally and internationally recognized researchers, will share editorial responsibilities and work together for the continuous development of JBP. Prof. William Berger was the coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Psychiatry and Mental Health (PROPSAM) of the IPUB/UFRJ and is the coordinator of a research group focused on post-traumatic stress disorder; and Prof. Marcia Cristina Nascimento Dourado is a Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) productivity fellow and a scientist of our state by Fundação Carlos Chagas Filho de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ), coordinating research on cognitive and socioemotional functioning in dementia.The main priority of JBP is the consistent communication of quality scientific research in psychiatry and mental health. The new editors-in-chief of JBP have the challenges of further increasing the journal's quality and striving to achieve indexing in the most influential knowledge databases. Our main expectation is to increase the impact factor in the coming years.Finally, we want to thank all associate editors, junior editors, and reviewers who gave much of their valuable time to help authors and editors improve their manuscripts. We also thank the authors who have submitted and continually submit their manuscripts to the JBP, the everfaithful readers, and the entire support and editorial staff without whose work the JBP could not be published.
