RELATIONSHIP OF QUALITY OF SLEEP AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN ELDERLY: CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to assess subjective sleep quality, the evaluate quality of sleep and quality of life in elderly. The study realized in 79 seniorsin Assisted Living Facilities in the Aydın city aged ≥65 years. Data were collected with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and health related quality of life was assessed by HQL SF-36 form. The PSQI total score of <5 indicates good sleep quality. Correlation analysis was used in order to explore the correlation between sleep quality and age and quality of life. To determine factors affecting sleep quality regression analysis was used. In the study, the mean PSQI score was 9.83±3.6 and 89% seniors have objectively poor sleep quality according to with PSQI. Overall subjective sleep quality during the past month was very good, fairly good, fairly bad, and very bad in, 4%, 38.3%, 38.3%, and 18.7% of the respondents respectively. Sleep disturbances were more frequent in seniors living alone and receiving medications related on hypertension and diabetes. The elderly with sleep disturbances were insufficient to maintain physical functions, suffer weaknesses from physical and emotional role and to have decreased in social functioning. Sleep quality as a factor which affecting QOL should be considered and evaluated properly in in elderly.
