Aspects correlates with Scandinavian Stroke Scale for predicting early neurological impairment

Abstract: Objective To investigate the correlation between the Alberta Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) and the Scandinavian Stroke Scale (SSS) for the evaluation of neurological impairment in patients with acute stroke. Method 59 patients with a first acute ischemic stroke were evaluated. The ASPECTS were evaluated by 2 neurologists at admission and by another neurologist after 48 hours. The NIHSS and SSS was applied to determinate stroke severity. Correlations and agreements were analysed statistically by Spearman and… Show more

“…Prior analyses have described ASPECTS to be associated with short‐ and long‐term evaluations of the degree of neurological impairment and functional outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients 27–29 . However, the ASPECTS score was not significantly correlated with either short‐ or long‐term outcomes in our study.…”

“…Prior analyses have described ASPECTS to be associated with shortand long-term evaluations of the degree of neurological impairment and functional outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients. [27][28][29] However, the ASPECTS score was not significantly correlated with either short-or long-term outcomes in our study. This lack of correlation is likely due to the early time window of evaluation, as imaging within 3 hours of stroke onset may be too early to adequately see identifiable signs of ischemic injury on NCCT alone.…”

“…Dentre elas, destacam-se a Escala de Função Neuromuscular (FNMS), Medida de Função Motora (MFM), Escore de Sintomas Neuromusculares (NSS), 12 escala Escandinava de AVC, 13 Escala de Rankin (ER), Índice de Barthel (IB) e a National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). 14 Apesar do vasto uso destes instrumentos na prática clínica, estes são específicos para determinadas doenças neurológicas (ex.…”
