Abstract: Objective: The Brazilian population has heterogeneous ethnicity. No previous study evaluated NR3C1 polymorphisms in a Brazilian healthy population. Materials and methods: We assessed NR3C1 polymorphisms in Brazilians of Caucasian, African and Asian ancestry (n = 380). In a subgroup (n = 40), we compared the genotypes to glucocorticoid (GC) sensitivity, which was previously evaluated by plasma (PF) and salivary (SF) cortisol after dexamethasone (DEX) suppression tests, GC receptor binding affinity (K d ), and D… Show more

“…In MetS patients we observed no correlation between BMI and plasma DEX concentration after 0.25‐, 0.5‐, and 1.0‐mg DEX suppression doses ( r = −0.07, r = 0.11, and r = 0.03, respectively), as we had previously reported in the control subjects . After 1.0‐mg DEX, no difference in circulating plasma DEX levels was observed between suppressors (MetS patients who suppressed both salivary and plasma cortisol) and nonsuppressors (4.3 ± 0.46 and 3.0 ± 0.53 nmol/L, respectively, P = .1).…”

“…6,8,9 Racial heterogeneity (differences in MAF) may be an important factor responsible for the inconsistency between studies. 5,19 For example, the MAF of rs12093097 (0.114) in this study was lower than that of the NCBI SNP database (0.2376). The allele A of rs3766355 was a minor allele in European descendants (0.306 in NCBI SNP database and 0.163 in McCarty's study 9 ), whereas it was a major allele in our study (0.534) and Sakurai's 6 (0.515) study.…”
