Virtual Reality for Monitor and Control of Electrical Substations

Abstract: This project presents the results obtained from a new strategy based on Virtual Reality techniques, which intends to minimize the operational issues caused in electric power substations due to the lack of spatial and functional information on the traditional operation interfaces. For this purpose, a three-dimensional interactive virtual reality environment was built in a realistic and accurate way regarding an energy supplier substation in Minas Gerais -Brazil and subsequently implanted it in its operation cen… Show more

“…This allowed the grid to respond to changing conditions and make it more resilient. Also, [15] created a multi-agent system for power systems to self-heal, which quickly restored service and made the system more reliable. These studies show how clever control technologies could help make the grid more reliable and make sure that core electricity systems always have power.…”

“…With the improvement of the level of power system automation, the role of computer disciplines and image processing technology in the intelligent operation of power systems is increasingly enhanced. Substation operation process using the technology of video monitoring, operating personnel will no longer need to view the operating status of each electrical equipment through a close distance [1] , but the night vision is poor will affect the video monitoring information collection, and by enhancing the image in the stitching can see the situation of the various locations of the substation at night [2] , which is a good way to improve the traditional substation operation of the low level of intelligence, to enhance the all-weather substation operation stability [3] . Image stitching is one of the key methods in image processing [4] .…”

“…For instance, construction industries employ VR technologies in design and processes revision associated with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) [1]. In addition, electric power companies use advanced user interfaces as a complement to conventional diagram management and field asset supervision [2].…”
