Production of lipolytic enzymes by bacteria isolated from biological effluent treatment systems

Abstract: This work aimed to evaluate the production of lipolytic complexes, produced by microorganisms isolated from a biological treatment system of effluents from a hotel. To select the best lipolytic microorganism for use in biotechnological processes, we tested 45 bacterial isolates recovered from the raw effluent of the hotel's restaurant waste tank. Lipase production was assayed in culture medium supplemented with olive oil and rhodamine B, incubated at 25 °C and 30 °C for 24 h-48 h. Results showed 22 isolates li… Show more

“…LBN 4.at 30 C. L. sphaericus also grew best between 20 C and 40 C (1.2 at 20 C and 1.65 at 30 C OD 600 ) with the optimum temperature required for lipase production and maximum growth observed at 30 C, with a value of 82 mM/min and 1.65 at 30 C OD 600 (Figure 4). Slight changes in growth temperature have been observed to affect enzyme production (Furini, Berger, Campos, van der Sand, & Germani, 2018). Amin and Bhatti (2014) noted that higher temperatures were detrimental to microbial growth and enzyme formation, due to large amounts of metabolic heat generated in the fermenting substrate.…”

“…Techniques that can be used to reduce the concentrations of lipids in e uents include processes employing lipolytic enzymes (Furini et al, 2018;Nimkande and Bafana, 2022). These enzymes are used to hydrolyze oils and fats in various industrial sectors, making them promising agents for the treatment of e uents with high contents of such substances (Silva and Guidini, 2019).…”

“…These enzymes are used to hydrolyze oils and fats in various industrial sectors, making them promising agents for the treatment of e uents with high contents of such substances (Silva and Guidini, 2019). The increasing use of enzymes in the environmental area has been driven by the need for cleaner methods, which has stimulated investigation of the potential of microbial enzymes for application in the treatment of e uents (Furini et al, 2018;Dias, 2021). Lipase enzymes can be employed in the treatment of e uents from dairy industries, slaughterhouses and edible oil re neries, among others, where there are high concentrations of lipids and esters (Sarmah et al, 2018;Nimkande and Bafana, 2022).…”
